  101. This morning, an ad placed by the Beyond War Foundation appeared in the New
  102. York Times.  Following is the text of the ad:

  104. "If you are opposed to war in the Persian Gulf, here's something you can do.
  105.  
  106. There have been hearings and debates and demonstrations.  There have been
  107. humdreds of editorials and thousands of letters to the editor and to our
  108. elected representatives.  Yet the march toward war continues and, as the
  109. January 15th "deadline" nears, it seems to be unstoppable.  As a result, many
  110. people are asking, "What more can I do to let them know I don't want a war?"
  111. We have a suggestion.
  112.  
  113. On Friday, January 11, between 9:00 AM and 10:00AM (Pacific Standard Time),
  114. call these phone numbers.
  115.  
  116. Express your opinion to whoever answers.  If enough people call, you probably
  117. will get a busy signal.  Keep trying.  Call as many of these people as you can.
  118. Let's "light up the switchboards" for this one hour to let the powers that be
  119. in the government and the media know how we feel about the futility and
  120. disastrous long-term consequences of a war in the Middle East.

  135. knowing about the ad.  If each of you would take a few minutes to forward this
  136. link to anyone YOU know who would be interested, and they do the same,this
  137. information could be widely distributed in a short time.  Obviously, time is of
  138. the essence, as we are being asked to make our phone calls tomorrow (Friday)
  139. morning.

  141. I have a photocopy of the text of the ad, as it appears in the NY Times, as
  142. well as a copy of a letter sent today, by the Beyond War Foundation, to every
  143. Senator and Representative urging them to take responsibility for representing
  144. the American people in the decision whether or not to go to war in the Persian
  145. Gulf.  I would be very happy to fax this information to anyone requesting it
  146. and will do my best to get it to you before I leave today (however, don't
  147. forget, I normally leave work at 1:00 every day).  Call me at x0395, leave your
  148. fax number and I will get it out to you.
